This is the first note on a new site about Japanese otaku culture, written by a Japanese otaku for readers outside Japan.
The plan is simple: start with the words people encounter in anime, manga, games, and fan conversations. Explain what they mean in plain English. Then look at the context that a quick translation can miss.
Some future pieces will draw on the writer’s memories of growing up in Japan. Those memories are a personal perspective, not a claim to speak for everyone in Japan. When an article makes a historical or broader factual claim, it will point to sources.
