I'm a Japanese otaku who grew up in Japan. This site explains the words, stories, and context of that culture for English readers.
Why it exists
Japanese pop culture travels across languages, but the context around a word does not always travel with it. This site is a place to slow down and explain that context clearly.
The writing will separate three things: what a word or work means, what the writer personally remembers or experienced, and what remains an interpretation. Historical claims will be checked against sources.
What is coming
Short explanations of terms such as moe and tsundere, alongside longer pieces about character types, stories, and the culture around them. The first full essays are still to come.
